About

Bronwen Pailthorpe is a writer / director and videographer / photographer passionate about filmmaking in all of its forms. Her writing and directing work focuses upon female-led narratives, as well as centering queer stories and interrogating grief. She is currently studying film at Yale University.

She has written three television pilots and one audio drama. Her first pilot ('Filling Up Hell'), was selected as a quarterfinalist in The Script Lab’s ‘Free Screenplay Contest’ from a pool of over 15,000 scripts. She has also written a feature film, ‘Filling Up Hell’. She enjoys writing drama, with a tinge of dark comedy and often sci-fi elements.

Her first narrative short film, "Hindsight", won 'Best Cinematography' at the Yale Student Film Festival, as well as being selected as one of 12 showcased films out of hundreds at the Panorama Film Festival. It also won ‘Best Short Film’ in the over-18 category at the Student World Impact Film Festival, highlighted from over 13,000 submissions. In the same year, her next short film, "Roughly Seven Minutes" won 'Best Super Short Film' in the same festival. She has completed two more short films since, and is in pre-production with her current one (‘Monitor’), a horror short highlighting the experience of postpartum depression.

She has acted in 3 of her 5 short films, as well as performing both on and off London’s West End. Most recently, she played Juliet in Action to the Word’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ at the Southwark Playhouse.

In the past few years, she has worked with over 30 organisations to produce tailored videography and photography content, ranging from fundraising videos for nonprofits to commercials for businesses.

When she’s not behind a camera, she can be found in her college’s pottery studio or at home in London spending time with her cats.
